LU

Fanette Mellier's drawing is based on the Necker Cube, an ambiguous design that creates an optical illusion: seen in cavalier perspective, it can be interpreted by the eye in two different ways in terms of its position in space. This visual ambiguity echoes the approach of Mellier, whose typographic and graphic designs play with the reader's perception. Here, reading is offered in three dimensions, between structure, space, and colour. The fourth grey and transparent colour on top of the three other bright colours reveals the letters LU, French for 'read', the simple past tense of the verb 'lire', and pronounced in English like the color red. LU is also the name of the iconic French manufacturer of biscuits from the city of Nantes.
